TS 003:2012 is a technical standard from the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) that specifies test methods for a door opening restrictor.

The scope includes products that are designed to safely limit the initial opening of the door, whilst still permitting householders to have a conversation with a visitor before fully opening the door. A typical door chain or door bar restrictor would be products that utilise this test method. Egress must always be retained even if the product has a ‘locking’ feature.

The standard has two main parts:

1. Door opening impacts (abuse mode) – product shall resist 200 door opening impacts when subjected to an opening force of 100N
2. Door opening impacts (attack mode) and resulting door gap – product and fixings shall be subjected to 3 impacts, after which the door opening shall not exceed 25mm at the point of disengagement and 76mm in the ‘on guard’ position

The test assumes no tools are used and that any unwelcome caller will only be able to use hand/ arm strength and/or bodyweight to attempt to force an entry. Door limiting stays (designed to prevent the door opening beyond a certain angle e.g. 90 degrees are excluded, as are safety restrictors stays that form part of BS 8213-1:2004).

TS 007-1:2014+ A2:2018 is a technical standard from the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) that specifies enhanced security performance requirements for replacement cylinders and/ or associated hardware.  

Cylinders and security hardware are classified according to their security performance.

Cylinders may achieve one or three stars whilst security hardware may achieve two stars. The overall security performance of a combination of cylinder and associated hardware is the cumulative star rating of the two components.

To achieve compliance with this specification, the minimum requirement for the package shall be three stars.

As part of our certified solutions range, ERA has a choice of two maximum security TS 007 3 Star cylinders, that can be fitted to new or existing doors.

Choose a euro profile cylinder or an Invincible cylinder to provide maximum 3 Star security for protection against snapping, bumping, picking and drilling.  

ERA also have a TS 007 1 Star cylinder that can be used in conjunction with a 2 Star security handle to meet the required cumulative 3 Star rating. 

TS 008:2022 is a technical standard from the Door and Hardware Federation (DHF) that defines the classification of letterplates. 

The standard includes letterplate assemblies that allow mail to pass directly through a door or side panel, slide through boxes that allow mail to pass directly through a door or door side panel; both designed for fire and/or non-fire applications.

A number of standardised security tests measure the ability of a letterplate to resist attack by a method known as ‘fishing’. A common method of often opportunist attack, whereby keys (or other possessions) are obtained through a letterbox using a hook.
